first alert chief meteorologist paul heggen here is going to break it all down for us. it feels like every week we've had a new storm. hopefully we'll get a longer relief period. >> right. now that we've hit mid-april, we're into that time of spring where it's not impossible for more rain, but the storm systems tend to be fewer and farther between, generally a bit more meager in the amount of moisture they deliver. we don't have any storm systems in the near future. the extended forecast is dry. the dry pat pattern really returning today. after highs today were fairly close to normal for this time of year, we will warm up to a greater extent beginning tomorrow, but especially by wednesday and thursday. temperatures now mostly 60s, 59 degrees for downtown san francisco, the warm spots concord and san jose in the upper 60s, very close to normal for those locations, tax day today. we are going to see temperatures drop off through the evening. if you're heading out to the a's game as they begin a series against the st. louis cardinals, game time temperature just short of 60

let's check in with meteorologist paul heggen what to expect for the weekend. >> definitely blustery this evening, but the winds will be calmer heading into the weekend itself. most of the sustained winds in the bay area are in the 15 to 20 miles an hour, but the strongest gusts over 40 miles an hour at both airports because of the geography where the airports are located, sfo down wind of the san bruno gap. the oakland airport is down wind of the flat expanse of the bay, nothing to slow down the wind as it makes its way over the water. most of the wind gusts are in the 25 to 30-mile-an-hour range which are noticeable, but not damaging. we're keeping an eye on first alert doppler watching showers and thunderstorms making their way through the central valley trying to skirt the far eastern sections of solana and contra costa county, but this stays in the central valley. a lot of rain around sacramento for drive time this evening. that activity will fade as the sun goes down in about an hour and a half or so. talking about calmer conditions this weekend, also a warm-up over the next se

let's go to paul heggen to talk about our mother earth and our mother weather [ laughter ] >> reporter: now, you can say good-bye to the above average temperatures that we enjoyed. let's take a look at what we need to know. the last week of april. clouds, fog, spreading out. plenty of sunshine as you saw there. we are going to be back to close to average temperatures from tomorrow through the end of the workweek and into the weekend. thursday, friday, the coolest days. we have a chance for a couple of showers to sneak into the bay area. and the weekend is looking nice. a dry weekend, again, two in a row, can you believe it? let's take a look at different perspectives, switching to mark hopkins hotel. it is going to spread out. the temperatures have been in free fall since this afternoon. 83 degrees this afternoon. san jose and concord. now you are down to the upper 50s. that cool air will be making itself right at home as we head through the next several days the fog will continue to spread out, a mix of clouds at ground level in the form of fog and clouds higher up in the atmosphere.

paul heggen standing by to fill nus on this roller coaster of sorts, is that correct? >> yes. you know, the drop is coming, that will be farther down-the-line. short term, another day of near normal high temperatures tomorrow. we will stay dry for the next several days. an area of high pressure way out in the pacific. it will be close enough to effect our weather. in fact, close enough to allow the temperatures to warm up getting closer to the coast. surpressing the development of fog or cloud cover and it helps to warm the temperatures up at ground level. inland readings, up to 80 degrees for the first few days of may. there is the golden gate, about an hour until the sun goes down, probably 45 minutes at this point. on our way down to the 40s across the bay area by early tomorrow morning. it is slightly below average. 2-4 degrees below normal. we will make up for it. clear skies, no cloud cover. we will be on the other side of what is normal for april. temperatures warming up to a degree or two of what is average for the last afternoon of april into the lower 70s in the vall
